The Archives

Thanks to Hidayah, who just restored the Archives section in my sidebar, after its disappearance for what seemed like eons. So you can like go and take a look in jan, back when I actually blogged but with a different layout. And my first entry was on my birthday! And I said something like Hidayah's a blogging guru. Well, at least I think she is.

We were just chatting 'bout how life's been changing. And still is. And about the mundane, dramafull times we had sometime back in september 2004. About how I was such a sucker. And I was sucking the life out of all of them. And we were leading such sad yet happy lives, the extremes. Sigh. Soap opera, anyone?

But I said I was glad those times were over. It's a good thing right? I mean, at least we spare each other of some tears and yelling. Ok fine, I spare them of all that.

Is it time to regret now? I'm feeling so bad, so much like a total jerk. I totally didn't realise how bad a person I was until now. But I'm glad I've changed, for the better yeah.

Wee hours of the morning

I've been studying through sunday morning! Look at the time now man!

I actually had tuition just now, no yesterday, with mel till like 3pm and then i met hidayah to study until around 7:30pm. I headed home and zonked out from 9pm to 1am. And I've been studying since then.

For now, its back to bed and I shall wake at 8am again to continue with my books.

And by the way, life sucks.

Saturday's Scents

What beats having invigorating scents of cappucino waft up your nose, rich chocolate cream melting in your mouth, and dixie chick's country tunes in your ear on a shady Saturday morning?

Nothing, really. Nothing's exactly comparable to the realisation that I actually have a life to live right now. Life's looking up for me perhaps. And I still smell of you. But I like it!

Mummy's birthday is on monday but I don't think we'd be able to celebrate or anything. Hear from aunt jo that she wants to bring us out for a treat tomorrow night, maybe she's got a plan in mind?

Well, the prelim exams are next week. The day after tomorrow. And I'm freaking in and freaking out. Hope I don't die before the second leg of papers after the september holidays. At least this creates time for me to study and really focus on those subjects after the one week break.

Alright. Shower time. Update when I can.

"It's Friday!" Special: Special

It's Friday once again. Oh rather, it was Friday yesterday.

I had a really special Friday. But I won't tell you why. The time spent was worth it I guess, and it felt great to be there again. I'm just hoping its a great start to even more.

Thanks, asshole.

Megalopolis

Yes!
A trip to taiwan this december holiday season! Just mum, cheyenne and myself.

Mum's been keeping herself busy, planning the itinerary all by herself and making sure that every single teeny-weeny detail is taken care of. We're doing it free and easy and mum's superb organisational skills would surely guarantee a perfect getaway for us! She's been doing tonnes of research and prying deep into internet forums to check out what others have been up to in taiwan so we can plan our schedule properly.

I think it'd be like 6 days of walking and eating and shopping, then eating some more, and then shopping again. Mum showed me the pics people have taken during their vacation in taiwan, mostly of food, and I tell you, the variety of food they have there is astounding. I just can't wait to get my hands on them and try every single thing out!

On the subject of food, I think its a tad embaressing, yet I would still like to confess, that I've been putting on weight recently. Okay, I don't know how recent, but yeah, like quite abruptly? I was a mere 55kg at the start of the year, but guess what - I'm 61kg now. I'm not saying its a bad thing, but I think its due to a change in lifestyle. Or something. Gone are the days when I used to gorge on fast food. And gone are the days that I actually exercised. I'm a lazier ass now, but the brighter side of things is that I've been keeping a tab on what enters my mouth and what doesn't. But the change is quite evident. As in, I can feel that sickly uncomfortable feeling whenever a certain morsel of *insert type of fast food* slides down my throat. I feel guilty, and then I feel disgusted. (sorry, fast food junkies like Hidayah! forgive me!)

Besides a changing diet, I think I've got more flab now. As in, more flesh and more - I don't know - mass? Haha! But I think I should really watch where the food ends up at. Whether it'll give me a perkier ass or a larger waistline. Me crosses me fingers and hopes it goes to the right places.

Okay. I shan't digress any further, before I start rambling on and on 'bout related issues such as kenny rogers or even the alleged discrimination against fat.

As I was saying, yeah, that trip to taiwan in december. I'd be returning on like christmas eve, so don't you dare think you can escape with one less present to give this year alright!

It was actually mum's idea to go to taiwan because I think she's been thinking 'bout going there since ages ago. We had a family discussion thingy that day to discuss where to go, but it turned out that dad's holiday schedule would clash with mum's and the best way out was for mum to just take us kids for the holiday. We had other ideas initially, like taking the spankingly-new qinghai-tibet railway that has been opened only just recently. It traces the route of the former silkroad and the train crosses the wilderness of china to tibet. That idea was the coolest thing ever but it was scraped off when dad's time didn't permit. He's been wanting to go to tibet since eons too but I guess we'd have to wait for some other time. (like, 2-3 years time)

Then someone suggested new zealand, since cheyenne hasn't been there before (gosh, time sure flies - its been 10 years since we've been there!) and someone suggested cambodia. Nobody seemed interested at one point, so the idea of having a family vacation was pretty much cancelled. It was only a few days after that mum decided that taiwan would be it and dad wasn't going with us.

I wonder if dad still remembers the india bagpacking trip that he promised me previously, on the condition that I aced my o levels. Well, I don't really know whats the minimum criterion, but I'm sure if I tried my best I'd be in india with him when he has time next year! I can't wait you know... to be on a bagpacking trip with nothing but your bag and a companion. In this case, a father would be good 'cos he's like the only adventurous soul around here. I still dream of seeing the beautiful taj mahal now, although they say its beauty has pretty much been diminished due to vandalism/pollution etc.

So many places to want to go, yet so little time, and so little money. Study for o levels first then say lah!

"It's Friday!" Special: Cameltoe

If you've been an avid reader or just a regular nosey-parker right here, you'd have known that a Friday thingy was coming up. Some really sexciting and scandalous new read that'd focus mainly on Friday's escapades of yours truly.

Well, truth be told, I wasn't expecting anything special that Friday, 'cos it was such a really blah! day to begin with, and I wasn't really in the mood for anything of that sort. But of course, but of course, Fridays always promise something fun, something kinky, something really... really... how do I put it... really Friday! even when the day seems all dreary and bland.

This week, being the virginial and sexclusive entry, we've unknowingly and unconsciously treaded in some really unsafe waters. Something to do with camels. And something to do with toes. No! nope! nah! I don't mean beastility okay! You bloody pervert! And its not a toe fetish too! Who's da sicko who suggested that?!

Its actually what you get when you put those two words together. Everybody say it with me: Cameltoe!

So what is it exactly? The goody-two-shoes in our midst may very well ask. Yes! Thats exactly what we wanna know! So dear Prasanna, and myself, whipped out some courage and some bravado, took to the streets (I mean, the aisles of my classroom), withstood the social stigma, and dished out the taboo question! On our very own classmates! Ha, victims!

What do you think is a cameltoe? In your own perspective? Do not be influenced and its not a camel's toe thankyouverymuch!

There were so many great answers. Wait, lemme recall.

Among the lot, there were these suggestions: A baby camel? A plant? A lotion? A drink? A piece of clothing? An insect? A symbol of stiffness? (Ooo, what a suggestive answer!) Camel-brand peanuts? A male erectile organ?

Sigh. Out of the 10-odd answers we've collated, we've only got 2 hits and the rest were misses. Why oh why? Are we so deprived? Even our resident Its Friday! ambassador/founder/soon-to-be-leader-of-pussycat-dolls got it wrong? She was the one who suggested that it was a plant? What... a new species of cactus?

I shall keep the secret of what really is a cameltoe in the dark. Those virgins among you who wish to try to guess, feel free to do so in the tagboard okay?

Just don't embaress yourselves!

Locked out

I am about the dumbest shit in the world right now.

Guess what clever thing happened man. I landed my entire self into bloody trouble when the room's door auto-locked, and I happened to be taking a shower when a strong gust of wind blew, and bang! That was it.

I had locked myself out. Imagine if I had no clothes with me in the shower. It would have been bloody funny then!

But anyways, I had to go through the ordeal of screaming part 1 and screaming part 2, of course, from both dad and mum. Which pretty much meant I was stirring myself in hot soup. There was so much crap, and accusations. And blaming. What I hate most. I think it was my fault that I rejected some lock changing idea of dad's some months ago. And I also think it was my fault that I intentionally put the key inside so that noone else had access to it.

See! Thats what happens when you accidentally make a mistake, a grave one. One that ends up with you on the gallows and all you can do is shut up and shut up some more. I would have much preferred it if the blame was on the wind or something.

There goes another $90. You know how many people $90 can feed? Time for some self-reflection, Andre.

You're missing out on A LOT if you haven't heard this podcast by mr brown and miyagi. It really cracked me up! I'm really impressed by the stereotypical roles of Singaporean society they never fail to mock. It sure lightens you up!

Its right here.

Light up the night sky!

We went down to the Esplanade that day to catch the fireworks, and we weren't early actually. We got there at around 8pm and the entire stretch of space along the harbour was filled with typically kiasu Singaporeans who've been there like since 5pm? They laid their mats and waited patiently for the fireworks show to commence. Because the entire place was crowded and really starting to fill up, we quickly sought a clearing and settled there. Settled, as in, stand there and not move in case people blocked us or anything. We were at the line where people stopped sitting down, so it was quite a good view without having to breathe down the necks of hairy uncles or smell the body odour of hairy aunties.

There was quite a jostle, because people were all moving about trying to find a good spot before it started, and the group of us were just standing there and trying to fit into the picture that we were gonna take of ourselves. Then, it finally started at like 9pm and I tell you, I've not seen that kind of fireworks where this red spot will suspend in the air and fool us that its so inert, and then suddenly right, it will explode into a golden shower, and the way it flows resembles a waterfall!

A pity that we didn't really manage to get any great shots of the fireworks. Does anyone know what kinda settings you should apply in order to get the best shot? Let me know, okay? I was busy video-ing the fireworks that night, so I didn't get to try my camera.

Okay, pics up ahead, of the day they threw money in into the air!

Fallen sick

The past few days have been intensive mugging and doing up as much work as possible in school. I've been staying late, till 'bout 9pm almost every night from Tuesday till Friday. Its been so tough on myself that I've even fallen sick! It started out with a backache, then a runny nose, a headache and a bad cough. I think the next week's gonna be like that too, can't help it 'cos I think school provides a rather conducive environment where the teachers are there for you to approach.

My prelims are effectively in 8 days time, and I've not really done much revision at all. I mean, there've been countless mock exams that we've gone through after school and night lessons we've attended, but somehow, it doesn't feel like I've progressed at all.

I was just telling mum that the papers in a week's time would determine my first three months of 2007, and its really scary, the very thought of that.

What if I don't do well? I really don't know lah. Hmm. I recieved several really motivational messages this morning, and I've just realised how many people really have expectations of me to do well!

So I guess I'd be much busier, especially in the weeks to come, so I guess I won't be able to come here as often as before. I'll try my very best to write new stuff anyways, so yup (:

National Day from my window!

Yay! Its uploaded now, and its taken from my new motorola v3i (:
It was when we heard the F16s(?) flying past and I frantically grabbed my phone and took aim!
I've been playing around with the brightness and contrast of this picture, and I dunno what I did but these rather aesthetically-pleasing purplish hues started to appear!

Big Fat Oogly Rat

I was at humanities night study in school last night when this rat decided to make an appearance and irk us all. I was seated at the tables and Ms Yew was sitting on this wooden bench, when suddenly I saw the rat coming up from behind her. It ran in between her legs, and by that time, Karen and Ms Yew were already on their feet and screaming in fright. The confused rat skidded to a halt, literally, and decided to make a u-turn back into the bushes. I saw it approaching her legs and it was such a close shave, lucky it didn't brush against her! It was so damn big I tell you. And disgusting. All of us started to feel itchy and we heightened our senses to be more wary of our surroundings in case the rat came out again!

While all this happened, I was just sitting there, appearing calm and collected although I was the one who first saw the rat coming up from behind us. And not to mention, I have a huge fear of rats, I don't know why. They're just gross and terrible and really make me cringe man.

I hope that big fat oogly fella doesn't appear anymore!

Featured! Digital! Times!

Considering that I'm a rather new and low key blogger in this vast blogosphere, I was indeed rather shocked when Auntie How text-ed me yesterday, telling me the good news that my blog was quoted on Digital Life!

Can you believe how excited I was?

Yep, although it was a measly two-liner, who cares? I've got my few seconds worth of fame okay! Haha. Yay. One more thing to tell my grandchild when I get old and saggy.

By the way, if you haven't seen that lil feature in the papers on one of my entries, don't bother. It's really measly, and plus! the entry wasn't that fantastic anyways. Lets see if that helps the publicity of this site!

If dreams come true for us...

Ha, no its not the familiar ndp song we always hum when we feel happy.
Its what has happened to Karen and I. She dreamt an unfortunate dream that the both of us got a B3 for our o level chinese. And it turned out to be true!
Sigh. If only the next line of that song would be reality too. As we walk together hand in hand, towards a future so bright... If only.

Somehow, I don't feel that affected by the bad results. I mean, I feel disappointed yes, but its not really making me feel down and out, maybe partly its cos of that wonderful Friday in itself? English o levels oral were not too bad I felt. I hope I get a distinction for that one. I was confident for that and wasn't at all tensed up because my chinese oral was a distinction too. So all I have to do now is to ace the written papers during the second try!

I'd have to start dreaming now. That we'd both get A1 for the next try!
Okay, Karen?

Spectaculars Live

Yes, live. But not so spectacular, leh?

Singapore Idol was kinda fun. There were lotsa screaming people, especially at the camps of Paul Downhill. And Nurul. The Hady people and the Mathilda people were quite loud too. And we were seated somewhere in between all those crazy fans. So my eardrums were a tad rattled after the show.

We were supposed to be put at the mosh pit initially, but 'cos Cheyenne was too small and too short and too underage, we weren't allowed to stand at the pit thingy. And we all got freaking pissed, due to some extremely dumbshit-ticket-misunderstanding and on top of that, we had to endure the extremely bad service attitude exhibited by one really inefficient idol crew member.

Well I had extra tickets for the show, so I brought my sis along, since nobody around really wanted to go that badly. And that was because I had read the clause/small print/details/whatever-you-call-em at the front, as well as at the back of the ticket. I read them twice over. And was clearly sure that it said that no kid under the age of 6 would be admitted at all. So I decided to bring Cheyenne along, who's 8 years old.

So we made our way down there with the rest of my friends. We were a bit early to wait in line and stuff, and when we were about to be admitted, under the "Un-numbered Tickets" line, nobody, not even the inefficient crew member, lets name him Loser for convenience, informed us that a little 8 year old would not be allowed to stand at the mosh pit. So everything went along fine while we waited patiently, and when we were finally let in to the mosh pit area at the stage, this fella, whom I think might be the stage manager, told us firmly that it wasn't possible and we had to go out and wait for seats to be available for us. So the lot of us obeyed lah, and went out.

Then we realised that this wasn't exactly right, because nobody, not even Loser, told us anything about that rule since the start at the queue when he tore my sister's ticket. Besides, it wasn't stated on the ticket at all! The ticket clearly and only said that kiddies under age 6 won't be allowed. Nothing else 'bout any age restrictions!

We had no choice but to wait while this lady, lets call her, urm Fake Smiler ('cos the only thing she could do was to plaster a forced smile on her face while she attended to our shit before we approached Loser) Fake Smiler took quite long to talk to some superior person in-charge, and she avoided us and our piercing gazes. When she first tried to reason with us, our questions seemed to dumbfound her. I mean, yes, we were assertive, because we needed to clarify things, but she didn't answer our questions. I was so fed up with her beating around the bush with us that I told her straight in her face in mock anger (I was actually laughing in my heart) Look, you're not answering our questions?! We want to know what can be done to ensure that we get in there. Well I tink Fake Smiler handed the issue prettay well just by smiling, but we weren't fooled by her pretended kindness okay. She was trying her best to avoid us actually.

Actually, I think we were quite scary. The lot of us. Hidayah was pissed and her facial expressions and gestures told it all. Karen was arguing intensely without any form of letting the issue slip by us. Pei Wen and Annabelle were like that too, showing their displeasure and reasoning incessantly. And I was pretending to be angry initially with Fake Smiler, but when we approached Loser, it made me really fuming mad with him man.

So seeing that Fake Smiler didn't attend to us "because she was busy with other people", we told Loser, thinking that he'd find a quicker solution. But he actually aggravated us even more. We explained to him and he did check with more superior people, but when he came back, he kinda got pissed with us too and this really made my blood boil.

He had this weird reasoning that the ticket stated that we were
not confirmed seats anyway, so it made no difference that we were in that situation, waiting for seats to be available 'cos we weren't allowed in the mosh pit. He became so agitated, particularly with argumentative me, that he took the ticket and showed it to me to prove that the print stated so, asking me to take a look for myself. This got me real mad 'cos he was beginning to offend me and he wasn't getting our point, and that was that nothing stated that 8 year olds weren't allowed in the pit anyways. And I was trying to tell him that if that were so, I wouldn't have brought my sis and "demand" her entry anyway.

Things started to get a little heated up and I know I didn't wanna start a row over there, especially since there were so many people from school. And the best moment was when our voices started to soar and I told him bluntly Don't raise your voice in his face and so he backed down. After some pointless discussion, heated argument and him finally "assuring" us entry to get away from us, he went away to check again.

Then I think his superior told him to get some chairs for us to sit while waiting, and he went to take a stack for us. When he got behind us, he put down the chairs with a loud bang and started to unstack the chairs noisily. I could sense his unhappiness and I knew we didn't wanna sit anyway so I just turned around and told him It's really okay you know, thank you very much. So he trudged away unhappily. Loser.

We were finally allowed in after like a 15 minute wait and we were just told to sit on any available place! How dumb! When they went through so much trouble to get us out and argue with us, and then they just let us in to find any seats we want?! Stupid right? I thought we'd get like lousy last row seats or something, but it was quite okay in the end. I still remember, we were trying to rub it in for that Loser fella, when he ushered us in we were like thanking him profusely, appearing kind and nice after all that shit he gave us.

His attitude was like really bad. What with all the chair-banging and rude replies to us. The customer is always right, okay? But we ended up having not too bad centre seats and we didn't have to stand a the pit for almost 2 hours? And we were seated right behind some Idol alums, like Jay!

So much drama, and the show really wasn't that spectacular after all. Boo.
We went back after that, and we didn't go chasing after the idols or asking Jay for autographs/picture. And so Mum drove all of us home and that was it.

"It's Friday!" Specials

I'm starting a new bit on this blog that would be featured every Friday/Saturday and it would be an outline of how I really spend my wonderful Fridays. This is because I've realised how really enjoyable Fridays are, the starters to a spendid or conversely, a not-so-splendid weekend ahead. And its good to be able to share it with everyone!

Lets quote Karen first. Her infamous phrase "It's Friday!", said with every bit of oomph in her, will be heard countless times on any given Friday. (This was how it all started) She'd then pout/moan/groan/wink/place her hands on her curves in an oh-so-sexay way you'd be wanting to do it too!

So miraculously, Fridays became THE day to throw your head back, let your hair down and just chill. Regardless of where you are, how busy you are, and how sexcited you are, Friday is THE day to be turned on and not off. We'd all get so hot and bothered Fridays will never be the same again. Especially Karen.

After all, it's Friday!, so get up, get out, and get laid!

Sexcited already?

I Love Singapore

This special day of the year kicks in again, to celebrate who we are and the country we live in. I experienced countless goosebumps-inducing moments as I watched the National Day Parade unfold before my eyes on the tv. I'm sure a sense of pride surged through every single Singaporean as we came together as one, mouths agape and eyes widened during the spectacular fireworks display that left us in awe.

Nothing exceptionally exciting for me this year, but I've done a little tattoo here for myself. Guess which part of the body!

Number series

I've no idea as to why the previous post's text turned out a bit different at the end. I've tried changing it like a zillion times yet its not really responding.

Happy National Day to all!
I'm thinking of doing some shots today to the I Love Singapore theme, but I might not have the time lah.

We had celebrations and a little parade in school on tuesday. I got to school and we were put on both sides of a red carpet. There was this guest of honour and march past and all. After that there was a concert, and the sec fours were put in the canteen! Like what the hell! It really spoiled my entire ra ra national day mood lah. I don't even think anyone in the canteen was really enjoying themselves anyways, and it was such an anti-climax, the entire thing. We watched the concert in the hall from the screen, and the only part I enjoyed were the last five minutes, when they sang patriotic national day songs and it got all warm and fuzzy inside.

What a spoiler man, shouldn't the sec fours be 'entitled' to sit in the hall, especially since its out last year?

We had chem test after that, spoiler number two. I hope I pass. Then
I realised that I had forgotten to bring my black leather shoes for the council photo-taking at noon. So i had to go back home and return with my shoes lah. How dumb, right. Council photos were fun and I saw Mr Bernard laughing to himself when it was the fun shot thingy. I dunno what he was grinning at, but I think it was us planning some really kinky action?

The ex-cos milled around after that to take even more photos.

President Jasmine!

Mr Sim

Number series with Mr Bernard

Man, it's really very rare to see such a jovial and cheery side of him!

How? You're 16!

The shots from Auntie How's celebration on her birthday. I'm sorry I've only made an entry 'bout it now Jia Yu, because everytime I wanna do it, blogger is all jammed up and I'm unable to upload photos.

Anyways, we bluffed her into thinking that we were all occupied with our own commitments on the day of her birthday. Hidayah took her for a 'walk' while we bought a slice of cake from secret recipe and went hiding from her.
Hidayah was supposed to confirm where Jia Yu wanted to dine at, so th
ey decided and went into Jack's Place first. And then suddenly, we appeared! Surprise!

She's come to stay

She shifted in her seat awkwardly, reaching her wizened hands out to scoop a piece of stir-fried beef from the green plate before her. Seeing the pathetic amount she was giving herself, I urged her on to take more, but she refused. I persisted, advancing to reach out to offer her a generous scoop. She then became adamant and rejected it, telling me to have it myself. Of course, I gave up and shifted my attention to mixing my own bowl of bibimbap.

Well I've come to realise that as people grow older, they become increasingly stubborn. For one, they feel that they should not "trouble" you at all and us youngsters should just go on living our spoiled lives. I mean, we are here to care for our elderly and provide the best living conditions for them, yet some of them continue to be adamant and do not accept this at all.

She thinks that she should not sit with the family on the sofa and the armchairs when we have some together-time during the weeknights. We have enough space, I insist. Dad told her to not be so polite. Or whatever that is going through her mind. Well, she humbled herself enough to sit on the edge of the green armchair one day, but when I took my homework to the coffee table to do, she began to get up from her chair and proceeded to move to the side of the hall and sit on the wooden floor. Seeing this, I was kinda confused, so I asked her where she was going. She told me flatly that she didn't wanna disrupt my study time. And I was kinda offended, so I started explaining to her that no matter where she sat, she was not going to be a potential distraction at all.

She has this super weird reasoning with us. Sometimes her excuse would be that she doesn't want to dirty the chair or something, thats why she doesn't wanna sit on it. I can't really understand the kind of thinking she has about things, and her being overly-conscious and overly-humble about things at home. She's trying to get used to it I know, but maybe she's being a tad too difficult?

I always find Dad having to nag at her for the simplest things. Little stuff like sitting properly at the dinner table, pushing her chair in so that she'd be sitting comfortably during the meal. And I also always find Mum having to nag at her too. Questioning her as to why she has to make herself lug an extremely huge and heavy melon all the way from pasir ris, on the bus, and why she has to buy a new loaf of bread even when the fresh one's still unopen in the bread box.

How stubborn can one really get as age engulfs us? It seems that time makes one more stubborn than a disobedient child, as one chooses to believe in his/her own mindset instead of opening up alternatives that people around provide. This usually results in a hell lot of nagging, scolding, and unwanted reactions from the younger generation. Can this be helped in any way?

So do I like living with an older, stubborn member of the family? I'm trying to get used to it, I mean, she's not irritating me lah, but I guess it takes time.

And yes, I've been talking about my paternal grandmother coming to stay with us since 2 weeks ago. It seems like shes coming here to stay quite permanently, till end year I guess.

Ramblings

Today's a super whiny day for me.

Firstly, I've got aching limbs due to yesterday's netball game during pe. Everytime I stand up and sit down, it just hurts here and there. My ass has been planted on my seat for almost the entire day and it aches like hell. And also 'cos its Thursday, like absolutely the worst day of the entire week. Timetable's like triple physics lesson and the day ends with a maths and chem. And to make it even better, we had physics lesson (again!) right after school, followed by the killer bio test. This time, the stakes were higher - its total marks is 145. You'd just die while doing it. Then die a few times more again. Urgh. I'd have to go thru that ordeal next Monday. The 3rd, and hopefully last, killer test.

Thursdays just suck lah, maybe because Fridays are the sexay-est days during the weeks. Friday's just a day to enjoy and prep yourself for the great weekend. But really, how much can we enjoy ourselves right now? It's sad to say, and I've been trying to avoid this unfortunate reality, that prelims are in a months time! Actually, less than that.

I am so unprepared and I've been wondering 'bout the first three months thingy that your prelims will determine for you. What if... what if... Arggghh.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that I'd be disciplined enough to complete my work and still have time relegated for intensive studying during the National Day break. I'm really banking in on that week to just chiong everything man.

Oh and I've just watched Singapore Idol. I think Singapore is really dumb, like they've got no ears to bloody hell hear the talents in the show. Or something. How can it be that the best singers in the competition, technically, can be left in the bottom 4? How? I think its like people do not vote for those who are good, just 'cos they think others will vote 'em in anyways! Its true, and its a sad fact.. that week after week.. the real singers are going home. I hope its not a vicious cycle that'd repeat man. Sigh. And can you believe it, I'm gonna go watch Idol live next Tuesday, and I'm really hoping it doesn't become a three-time-in-a-row disappointment man.

I still can't get over the fact that Jasmine Tye sang a Spice Girls' number and got through in the top group, despite obviously bad reviews from all four judges. She's been given too many chances and yet she hasn't redeemed herself yet!

Singapore, open up your ears! Hear the real talent!

SMRT Challenge

It's rare to actually get to experience, first-hand, what those reality tv idiots experience as they run about the world in The Amazing Race. But I did! As in, I didn't travel round the globe lah, but I had that same feeling, that adrenaline and buzzing excitement that rings in the ears!

I'm talking 'bout the SMRT Challenge some Sunday ago. It started out when Karen and I saw the poster put up at one of the MRT stations and immediately we told each other we'd take part and have a go at the $2000! So we did, and we managed to get Taariq and A'in to form the team of four. The fab four. And we were so damn lucky that our application got selected! We were part of the 98 student teams that were selected out of a total of 200++ applications! Lucky!

Basically the travel race required us to run around Singapore using SMRT transport whilst fulfilling the tasks at hand. The starting point was at Ngee Ann City, and that morning I had a tummy ache 'cos of some bloody hazelnut cream donut from that 7-11 stand. It went down badly I think. So anyways I was fine afterwards and we were damn excited for the race to commence. It started out and suddenly there was a footrace to Orchard MRT Station. So being the smart asses we were, we took the tunnel at Wisma and there were no people there to footrace with! It was 10 in the morning and Wisma's basement that led to the station was freaking empty. That was an extremely smart move on our part lah, so we got to the station and settled in a corner to start solving the clues.

There were like riddles, wordplay, picture clues, weird hints, and there was even a maths sum that required you to factorise the given equation! We got to work, while other teams passed us (but it was ok 'cos those people prolly didn't even know where they were going) We narrowed down our options and got 6/8 of the clues solved in 'bout 10 minutes. Well, we were pretty doubtful of our guesses and answers 'cos it was really vague and could just be anything under the sun man. But we went ahead to the one at the Orchard skate park first, which was the one that I solved and Karen was so excited she put her hands on my head and started shaking me. Haha!

So we completed the station at Orchard, and then Raffles Place, and then we headed to Tanjong Pagar, where Taariq rock-climbed! So fantastic man... and there was this other team of dorks who footraced us when they saw us. Hurhur. After that was a station at Bishan, to the SMRT Depot, and it was there that we were so confident of ourselves 'cos we were really doing much better than we expected! And the chartered bus was only occupied by us and we realised that the $2000 prize money was so close, in our reach!

After Bishan we completed Bugis and Tanah Merah, then Expo. There was one more station that we were really doubtful of at first. Our first idea was Bukit Panjang, but we changed our minds and decided it was in the East (we thought Expo initially but turned out that another clue was for Expo instead) so when we realised that we had made a mistake, we kinda freaked out lah. Because it was our very last station, and it would either win us the money or cause us to lose it, depending on where the station was...

And guess what man... IT WAS AT BUKIT PANJANG!

Can you believe it man.. From Expo we had to travel all the way to Bukit Panjang LRT station... Our worst fears had been spelt out before our eyes, literally. We cabbed from Expo to our last station at Bukit Panjang lah (with the free cash vouchers they provided, but for one cab trip only) and only after that were we able to head back to the end point, Ngee Ann City again.

So screwed up right.. the train ride back was freaking slow and we slept in the train lah.. 'Cos the fatigue was really setting in.. and the suspense was really quite tough to manage. One fatal mistake man, and we were delayed for quite a bit.. So when we finally got back to Orchard, it was right on time, but we didn't stand to win anything lah. Not even the free Sony Ericson mobile phone per member (for the best 10 teams that didn't win the top 3 prizes) Not. even. that.

We ended up in position 26 for the students' category. Not good enough, but not that bad anyways! But nevermind! I was really proud of my team. They rocked lah, and we totally outdid ourselves man, running from place to place and playing it smart and fair. Unlike some losers who chose to cheat by calling/meeting up with their friends to help them (I myself saw that) or those who chose to play it rough!

Okay, I shall curse that guy here. On the way back to the end point, there was
a footrace (like, again!) when this group of 4 guys spotted us emerging from the station, hot on their heels. The escalator was crowded and you know, ya have to keep left unless you're walking up right, to give way to others. But that bloody sucker, he blocked me (and my team mates behind me) on the long crowded escalator while his friends ran off in front. Can you believe it!? I was so shocked that someone like him would dare to piss me off like that man. So what did I do? I looked him in the eye and said Excuse me and when he didn't respond, choosing instead to look back into my eyes with a I'm-sorry-but-I-can't-help-it expression, I tried to push past him lah of course, but he resisted, and by that time I was already cursing and swearing under my breath and he had run off 'cos the escalator had reached the landing. What kinda sportsmanship is there in this man?

We got back to Ngee Ann, the end point right after them, like one second later, and we were directed to collect our goodie bags and record our timings and stuff. I caught that loser's gaze and stared hard at him. After collecting our things, his team was trying to get past ours to find a seat on the floor and since I was intentionally in the way, he had to get past me. You know what he did? He bloody hell kicked me in the shin from behind! It wasn't painful at all, but I was like fuming mad lah. What was he trying to prove by kicking me even after the race had ended? But I didn't retaliate. I guess it wasn't nice to create a scene there, but I was already satisfied, 'cos I know that when he kicked me, all the people sitting down on the floor saw and they all gave me a quizzical look when it was over.

I triumphed, you losers.

Anyways, we totally rocked and we'd try again next year! Watch this space!
